Sophie & Tom’s Summer Wedding at Rudding Park

Rudding Park wedding photography | Harrogate

Sophie and Tom’s summer wedding at Rudding Park was joyful, relaxed and full of real moments. As a Rudding Park wedding photographer based in North Yorkshire, it was a dream to document their day in Harrogate using a natural, documentary approach.

This was one of those days that just felt good from start to finish – and exactly the kind of wedding that suits a documentary approach. No stiff posing, no awkward moments, just real people having the best day.

It’s always a joy to be back at this venue – but this one really stood out for the energy, the emotion and the absolute scenes later on the dancefloor.

A Summer Wedding at Rudding Park, Harrogate

Rudding Park is such a brilliant wedding venue for couples who want elegance without it feeling stuffy. The gardens, the chapel, the light – it all works beautifully for natural, candid wedding photography.

Sophie and Tom chose a summer date, which meant plenty of time outdoors, guests soaking up the sunshine and that laid-back, celebratory feel that only a warm-weather wedding brings.

Getting Ready at Rudding Park

The morning prep was calm, chatty and full of excitement – exactly how it should be. Sophie got ready at Rudding Park with her closest people around her, lots of laughter, a few happy nerves and those little in-between moments that often end up being the most meaningful.

This is where my documentary approach really comes into its own – quietly capturing what’s actually happening rather than staging anything. A squeeze of hands, a deep breath, someone straightening a dress without even thinking about it.

A Beautiful Ceremony in the Chapel

The ceremony took place in Rudding Park’s chapel and it was emotional in all the best ways. From the moment Sophie walked down the aisle, you could feel how much love there was in the room.

I’m always watching the reactions as much as the main event – proud faces, wobbly smiles, and those quick glances between Sophie and Tom that say everything without a word.

Confetti, Cheers & Proper Just-Married Energy

One word: CONFETTI.
Okay, maybe chaos too – but the good kind.

As soon as Sophie and Tom came back outside, guests went all in, and it made for some of my favourite images of the day. Big laughs, flying confetti and that “we actually did it” feeling written all over their faces.

We snuck out for a short wander around the grounds while the light was gorgeous – nothing long or awkward, just a bit of breathing space and a chance for Sophie and Tom to enjoy a quiet moment together.

No forced posing, no pressure. Just gentle guidance and space to be themselves.

Thoughtful Styling & Wedding Details

The styling was elegant but unfussy – soft colours, beautiful florals and details that felt very them. Everything worked effortlessly with Rudding Park’s surroundings without feeling overdone.

I always photograph details as they naturally sit within the day – how they’re seen and experienced, rather than perfectly arranged and untouched.

Speeches Full of Emotion (and Laughs)

The speeches were a brilliant mix of heartfelt and hilarious. There were proper emotional moments, a few inside jokes (including some rugby chat 👀), and lots of genuine reactions from guests.

These are the moments I absolutely live for – the laughter, the tears, the faces in the background. It’s where documentary wedding photography really shines.

A Dancefloor That Went OFF

And then… the party.
Once the music started, it didn’t stop.

From the first dance to the packed dancefloor later on, the energy was unreal. The kind of evening where shoes come off, ties loosen and everyone’s just having the best time – which is exactly how it should be.
