Weddings at Sedgewell Barn, North Yorkshire

Relaxed, joy-filled wedding photography at one of North Yorkshire’s best barn venues

Why I love Sedgewell Barn Weddings

What do you do?

Sedgewell Barn is one of those venues that just works. It’s got all the charm you’d expect from a North Yorkshire barn, including exposed beams, loads of character and warm textures. But the really great news is, it never feels dark, cramped or overly rustic. It strikes that sweet spot between relaxed and polished, which is exactly the kind of energy my couples tend to go for.

The layout is a big win here. Everything flows really naturally, from the ceremony straight through to drinks and into the reception space. There’s no awkward “everyone move over here now” energy, it just feels easy. And from a photography point of view, that means more natural moments, more connection, and less disruption.

The courtyard is where things really come alive. It’s perfect for confetti, drinks, hugs, and all those in-between moments that end up being people’s favourites. Guests spill outside without losing the atmosphere, which keeps the energy up all day (and makes for some seriously good candids).

Light-wise, Sedgewell Barn is a dream. It holds onto warmth beautifully indoors, especially as the evening kicks in and the party starts. Outside, you’ve got open skies and soft countryside backdrops right on your doorstep, there’s no need to drag your guests off somewhere for photos. And the Golden hour here is absolutely stunning!

It’s also brilliant for bigger weddings. There’s loads of space, plenty of on-site accommodation (including hot tubs – always a win), and a dancefloor that actually gets used properly. Oh and they also have their iconic confetti ponies, which are exactly as fun as they sound.

If you’re planning a laid-back, high-energy wedding with loads of personality, this place delivers.

I haven’t had the chance to photograph a full wedding at Sedgewell Barn just yet but I’ve spent time shooting here and getting to know exactly how the space works, the light, and how a wedding would naturally flow.

And honestly? It’s one I’d LOVE to shoot more of.

This styled shoot was all about showing what a relaxed, joy-filled wedding at Sedgewell Barn could look like using the courtyard, the surrounding countryside, and all that gorgeous natural light the venue gives you.

If you want to see how I photograph a full wedding day in a similar setting, this one’s a good place to start:

Big energy, loads of candid moments, and a dancefloor that went absolutely off. Which is exactly the kind of vibe Sedgewell Barn does so well.

“From the get go Hannah made us so relaxed. She is so lovely and was such a calming presence in the morning and then such a part of the fun and party as the day went on! We honestly had the best time and even enjoyed being photographed which is a first for us! We’ve had so many compliments about how lovely Hannah was and how fun she made it and we honestly think this shines through in our photographs.”

The getting-ready bits

There’s loads of space for prep at Sedgewell, which makes a huge difference to how the morning feels. No cramped rooms, no stress, just calm, excited energy. I’ll float between both sides if needed and capture everything as it naturally unfolds.

Making the most of the grounds

You don’t need to disappear for hours to get beautiful photos here. The courtyard, surrounding countryside and open skies give us everything we need within a few minutes of your guests so you get great photos and stay part of the day.

The party (aka where it goes OFF)

This dancefloor does not mess about. The space, the acoustics, the vibe, it all just works. I’ll be right in the middle of it capturing the chaos, not hiding at the edges.

Is Sedgewell Barn a good venue for wedding photography?

Yes, it’s genuinely one of my favourites. The layout flows really naturally, the light is great, and there’s loads of space both inside and out for relaxed, natural photos.

Can you have outdoor space for drinks and photos?

Absolutely. The courtyard is perfect for drinks receptions, confetti and mingling, and it keeps everything feeling connected rather than split across different areas.

Do we need to travel off-site for couple photos?

Nope. The surrounding countryside gives you beautiful backdrops right on your doorstep, so you don’t have to leave your guests.

Is Sedgewell Barn good for larger weddings?

Yes there’s loads of space, plenty of accommodation on-site, and it handles bigger guest numbers really comfortably. The Rustic Barn can accommodate up to 80 guests for a ceremony and the Celebration Barn can accommodate up to 150 guests for the whole shebang.

What’s the evening like at Sedgewell Barn?

Incredible. The barn holds onto warmth, the bar is always well stocked , the lighting works beautifully, and the dancefloor always ends up full.
