Why I love Tithe Barn Weddings
There are wedding venues that look impressive on Instagram, and then there’s Allerton Castle.
This place is BIG in the best possible way. Dramatic staircases, ridiculously grand interiors, huge windows, candlelight, long corridors, hidden corners, sweeping grounds. It honestly feels like stepping onto a film set. But what I love most about photographing weddings here is that despite all the grandeur, it still works brilliantly for relaxed, personality-filled weddings.
It’s one of those venues where your guests genuinely walk around saying “wow” all day long.
From a photography point of view, there’s loads of variety without needing to drag you miles away from your guests. The staircase is iconic for a reason, but there are also loads of quieter little pockets around the castle for natural couple photos that don’t feel overly posed or formal. The ceremony spaces have loads of atmosphere, the reception rooms look incredible once the candles and speeches start, and the evening party always feels huge in the best way.
The grounds are also a massive bonus. Even if the weather isn’t perfect, there’s enough inside the castle to create loads of variation without anyone feeling stuck indoors all day. And when the light does play ball? The gardens and exterior of the castle are unreal for a quick golden hour wander.
It’s definitely a venue that suits couples who want their wedding to feel properly memorable without losing the relaxed side of the day. You don’t need to become “posy wedding people” just because you booked a castle.
Honestly, one of my favourite weddings here was one where people fully leaned into the atmosphere, had a brilliant time with their guests and trusted me to quietly document it all as it unfolded.
Rebecca & Stu’s December wedding at Allerton Castle honestly felt like stepping into a gothic Christmas film,in the best way possible.
The castle looked incredible dressed for Christmas, with candlelight, huge trees, warm lighting and rich red details running throughout the day to tie in beautifully with Rebecca’s amazing red hair. It all felt dramatic, stylish and completely personal to them without ever tipping into “overdone”.
Their guests brought such brilliant energy too. A wonderfully alternative crowd, loads of personality, loads of emotion and absolutely zero pressure for the day to feel traditional just for the sake of it. It felt really true to them from start to finish.
And then came the evening ceilidh.
Absolute chaos. In the best possible way.
The dancefloor was packed from the first song, people flying in every direction, guests crying laughing, shoes abandoned halfway through the night, exactly the kind of atmosphere I love photographing. One of those weddings where every time you turned around, something was happening.
The combination of the dramatic castle setting, cosy winter atmosphere and full-on party energy made this one ridiculously memorable to photograph.

Allerton Castle suits my style of photography perfectly because there’s so much happening visually and emotionally throughout the day.
I’m not going to turn your wedding into a full-day photoshoot just because you booked a dramatic venue. You’ve chosen this place because you want your guests to experience it too, so my approach is always about documenting the atmosphere naturally while still making the most of everything the venue offers.

I use the venue properly, not just the staircase
Yes, we’ll absolutely make the most of the iconic spaces. But I’m also constantly watching for smaller moments happening around the castle that tell the full story of the day.
You won’t disappear for hours for portraits
Allerton Castle has loads of beautiful spots close together, which means we can create natural, relaxed portraits without taking you away from your wedding for ages.
I know how to work with darker interiors
Big castles can sometimes be quite dark inside, especially later in the day. I’m very used to photographing in venues like this without ruining the atmosphere with loads of harsh lighting.
The party matters just as much
Some of the best photos at Allerton Castle happen once the dancefloor starts. This venue absolutely comes alive at night and I’m always watching for the chaos, reactions and little moments people don’t realise are happening.
Does Allerton Castle work well for relaxed weddings?
Absolutely. Despite how grand it looks, it actually works brilliantly for laid-back weddings because everything flows well and there’s loads of space for guests to properly enjoy themselves.
What if it rains?
Honestly, this is one of the best rainy-day venues. The interiors are so beautiful and varied that you can still get loads of different photos without relying heavily on outdoor space.
Do we need loads of posed photos here?
Not at all. The venue already brings loads of atmosphere and visual interest, so natural moments work incredibly well here.
Is there good space for group photos?
Yes, both inside and outside. The steps outside work brilliantly for larger groups and there are indoor options too if the weather turns.
