Top tips for your perfect confetti moment

8 tips for planning the perfect confetti shot

I’m a huge fan of the perfect confetti moment! It’s bright, it’s colourful and it’s loads of fun. It’s also one of the only parts of your day all your guests can get involved in. And from start to finish, it’ll only take about 5 minutes.

But getting those big confetti filled shots takes a bit of planning. So here’s 8 top tips for planning the perfect confetti shot.

Check your wedding venue’s confetti policy

Confetti is a messy business. So the first thing you need to do is make sure your venue actually allows confetti shots! Even the venues that do allow them will often have stipulations around the TYPE of confetti you’re allowed to use.

In my humble pinion the biodegradable paper confetti is the best – it floats like a dream, fills the air for your confetti shot, and won’t feel like you’re being pelted by sawdust. But not every venue will allow it.

The best way to find out and avoid disappointment on the wedding day, is to check the venue’s FAQs or give your venue coordinator a quick call to find out.

Buy your confetti

When you’re choosing what confetti to buy, think about how it’ll fit in with your colour palette, your styling, and the overall vibe of your day. White confetti: timelessly elegant. Rainbow confetti: relaxed and fun. Dried petals: understated and boho. Fresh rose petals: bougie and romantic. There’s no right or wrong, just have a look and see what feels right.

And when buying your confetti, buy A LOT more than you think you’ll need. You want a blizzard, not a sprinkling.

Decide when and where

Traditionally the ‘confetti moment’ is immediately after the ceremony. But that might not be the perfect time and place to have it, so do consider other options. If it means you’ll enjoy the moment more and we’ll get a better shot, there’s no harm in delaying your confetti moment until later in the day.

We’re looking for somewhere with a great backdrop, and preferably with a decent amount of space for you and your guests. But honestly don’t worry about this too much, I’ll scout out the venue beforehand and find the perfect spot for us.

Prepare for the confetti shot

You want to make sure everyone has some confetti. If you’re having your shot immediately after your ceremony, just leave a few baskets of it by the door, or have small pouches of it on every seat and delegate the responsibilities to your bridal party! If you’re having it later, you can have baskets of it and ask someone to give it out.

Plan the shot

(and make sure your guests understand the assignment!)

I will co-ordinate your guests into two equal lines to form a nice long aisle. Then as you pass, I’ll ask them to throw the confetti up and over you, not at and down.

Someone will always ignore this by the way – case in point, the guy with the basket below. Made for a great photo though!

Enjoy your very own perfect confetti moment

I’ve never had a couple who didn’t absolutely love their confetti moment. Walking hand-in-hand through a tunnel of colour, well-wishes and love from all your favourite people. It’s unforgettable, and it’s something you’ll only ever get to do once, so make sure you take it all in and enjoy it.

For the best photos, take your time. Keep your heads up and your eyes open. And pro tip: if you’re looking at each other, it’ll shield your face from a lot of the confetti.

You also want to hold hands, and if you feel inclined, stop in the middle for a kiss!

Make it part of your first dance

If your venue will allow it (please PLEASE check beforehand!), why not buy some confetti canons and ask a few trusted helpers to fire them during your first dance. It adds a little extra to those first dance pics and will certainly make it memorable!
